Welcome Friends! Happy Fall! This is my first home tour ever and I am really excited to show you around my home! Grab a warm mug of coffee or cocoa and come on in…
Fall is the perfect time for my first home tour because it is my favorite time of the year. Beginning with the air cooling off to a crisp, refreshing temperature and then adding in all the lovely things that come along with fall…apple cider, pumpkins, cozy sweaters and brilliant colorful leaves. It is a beautiful time of the year leading up to the holiday season!
Since this is my first home tour, you aren’t familiar with my typical decorating style, but I will tell you this, I definitely added more neutral colors to my fall decor this year than I have in previous years. I usually fill my home with the standard fall colors: oranges, browns and golds. Now, I have still incorporated a majority of those decorations , however for my dining room I tried out some neutrals. I opted to try some more refreshing colors for fall. I have been seeing a lot of whites, sages and golds this season so I decided to freshen up my look for fall.
Overall, my favorite method for decorating for seasons and holidays is using a mixture of the things I already have and combining it with a handful of new items. Now of course, I always try to keep my new purchases on a budget with minimal expense. However, it is so much fun going into the seasonal departments and digging through the little bins of pumpkins, searching the shelves for new little knickknacks and looking at the beautiful linens and fabrics to see what new treasures I can discover! This season, I chose a few new pieces to add some neutral colors to my decor.
Let’s pause on the front porch for just a moment before heading inside. As in all of my decorating, I like to keep things simple on my front porch. Creating a pretty fall front porch doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply grab some mums, some pumpkins and a festive fall wreath and you have the perfect ingredients for an inviting front porch! Whether you’re visiting a pumpkin patch or stopping at the grocery store, there is not shortage of pumpkins, gourds and mums this time of year!
Now come on inside and I’ll show you around, let’s start off in the family room…
I chose a few of my traditional fall decorations (a wooden pumpkin and candy corn, a small Halloween sign, and an orange berry ring.) This added a nice burst of fall color to our family room. Then I added some beautiful, neutral pillows from Ikea with a simple gray and beige botanical pattern. This added the perfect coziness to our sectional couch when paired with our cozy, soft blanket. Our couch is the perfect place to curl up on a brisk fall day to enjoy a movie or a book with a steaming cup of coffee.
Now we will move into the dining room…
This is absolutely my favorite room to decorate in our new house! With the china hutch, dining room table and bay window, I have plenty of spaces to decorate! But it wasn’t always that way. In our old house, we didn’t have much furniture or shelving to decorate. So when we first moved in, I was definitely intimidated by all of the spaces that I would need to decorate. It has definitely been a process (and even after being in our new home for almost 3 years, we still have a lot more decorating to do.) But over time, I have grown to love decorating this room. This is where I’ve incorporated the majority of my new, neutral fall decor and I love how it turned out. Adding the cool, refreshing neutrals gave this room a very different look from past years.
Next, let’s take a look at our living room…
I spruced up our console table with some traditional fall decor including pumpkins and colorful corn. I also added some sprigs of eucalyptus, which I am absolutely loving this fall! A few simple touches is all you need to add a warm seasonal feel to any room!
And finally, let’s move into my favorite room of the house, the kitchen and breakfast nook…
I like to keep our decor minimal in this area of the home since it is such a high traffic and busy area. I like to keep things simple for easy clean up and minimal clutter. Some neutral, faux hydrangeas in a pitcher are perfect to add a touch of fall to the breakfast nook!
I also love to make fresh, baked goods this time of year! Heading into the holiday season, I start to get in the mood for mixing up some fresh, warm sugar cookies! I love to sit at the table with a hot cup of coffee and some sweet treats while gazing out the sliding glass doors at the wildlife and the changing leaves! It is the perfect fall weekend activity for de-stressing after a busy week!
It wouldn’t truly be fall without a basket full of fresh, crisp apples on the counter. Macintosh, Gala, and Honey Crisp are my favorites to keep around for lunches and snacks!
One of my newest additions to my kitchen is my counter-top herb garden! I decided to bring some of the outdoors in this fall with a few simple herb plants! These will be perfect for freshening up my fall and winter cooking. I will be sharing how to create a simple counter-top herb garden in an upcoming post!
A few additional ways that I like to set a warm, cozy fall mood in our home is to ensure that I add some amazing fall scents. I currently have apple cider scented wax melting in my warmer in the kitchen. It fills our home with the scent of delicious mulled apple cider! And of course, my sink is not complete without my favorite fall Bath & Body Works soaps! I am currently using Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin at the kitchen sink! This is the perfect finishing touch to create a fall atmosphere in our home.
Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a tour around my home! I hope that I provided you with some fall inspiration and simple decorating ideas-that was my goal! Decorating can sometimes feel overwhelming and daunting, but you can create a warm and inviting environment by just adding a few simple touches in each room.
